My Hardware

Current Hardware:

ZeusZeus

Zeus is my main desktop machine. I built him in August 2008, but the origional motherboard broke, and it took me about 3 months to get a replacement. The new motherboard has almost exactly the same spec, it is just from a different maker and supplier.

Spec:

  • Processor: AMD Phenom quad 2.66 GHz
  • RAM: 2GB
  • Graphics: Nvidia 9500GT with 1GB of GRAM
  • Monitors: 1 19″ widescreen TFT monitor
  • Keyboard: Logitech G11
  • Storage: 1 80GB IDE, 1 500GB USB HDD
  • Operating System: Ubuntu 9.10 A3, extremely customised.

You will See from the picture, that the screen looks nothing like the default Ubuntu desktop. I change it occaisionally, and will update on my blog what I change to it, and post screenshots every so often. I will blog in detail about how my desktop looks as well.

Zeus is named after the Father of the gods, in greek mythology. He is the second computer in the greek mythology line of my computers. He is also the very first computer that I bought completely on my own. I plan, in the future, to extend the number of monitors, add a bit more RAM, and get a new mouse for him.

Morpheus

Morpheus

Morpheus is my netbook – a Lenovo Ideapad S10e. I bought him 2 months ago, from ebuyer.com, for £180. He was on special offer, but the offer is over now, so don’t get upset when you can’t find it :P .

The Lenovo Ideapad S10e can come with Windows XP, or Suse Enterprise 10. Mine came with Suse. I don’t use it on it at all just now, but at least in buying it, I don’t have to give any money to Microsoft. In fact, I’m giving some money to Novell. Ok, yeah, yeah, that might mean giving money to Microsoft…but ya know. That isn’t the point.

Specs:

  • Processor: Intel Atom 1.6GHz
  • RAM: 1GB
  • Graphics: Intel GMA 950
  • Monitor: 10.1″ glossy screen
  • Storage: 80 GB HDD
  • Operating Systems: Ubuntu 9.04 NBR, Jolicloud alpha, Moblin Beta 2, Windows 7 RC

Morpheus is the Greek god of dreams, in Greek mythology. He is a fantastic netbook, currently with the 3-cell battery gets about 2.5 hours battery life, and I am going to buy the 9-cell battery for it. It is nice and light, but the keyboard is still 95%, so is a nice size for my fingers.

PoseidonPoseidon

Poseidon is my mobile phone. He is a Nokia 5800. I got him in around April of this year free on a £20 O2 contract. The contract gave me 2000 texts, 600 any network minutes, unlimited O2-O2 calls and unlimited data.

I seriously love this phone. Really, I do, it is fantastic.

Stats:

  • Dimensions: 4.37 x 2.04 x 0.61 in
  • Weight: 3.84 oz
  • Size: 3.2″
  • Resolution: 640 x 360 pixels (nHD)
  • aspect ratio 16:9
  • Micro-USB connector, USB 2.0 High Speed
  • 3.5 mm Nokia AV connector
  • MicroSD card slot, small DC jack, Micro USB cable interface to PC (CA-101), TV out interface (CA-75U)
  • 3.2 megapixel camera (2048 x 1536 pixels)

Poseidon was the Greek god of the sea and of earthquakes. There really is no reason I chose this name, other than I like it :P
